Tips for World Diabetes Day
One in 10 of the world’s people live with diabetes (537 million adults)*.
One in 2 remains undiagnosed (240 million adults). Most of these people have type 2 diabetes.
All of these people need ongoing access to education and effective treatment to understand their condition and to carry out the daily self-care necessary to stay healthy and avoid complications. If missing, lower limb blood flow disorders, diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy, myocardial infarction, or stroke, usually caused by diabetes mellitus, can cause permanent disability and death in patients.
The causes of type 1 diabetes are still poorly understood, so it is virtually impossible to prevent the disease. However, with Type 2 Diabetes, most cases are associated with excess body weight and physical inactivity and therefore can be prevented in up to 80% of cases by following simple rules for a healthy lifestyle:
- maintain normal body weight;
- be physically active and get at least 150 minutes a week of regular physical activity;
- follow a healthy diet and reduce the amount of sugar and saturated fats;
- give up unhealthy habits.
If diabetes is still occurring, the pharmaceutical company Astrapharm produces a hypoglycaemic tablet, Metformin-Astrapharm, to treat the disease.
Metformin-Astrafarm has a complex mechanism of action:
- leads to a decrease in glucose production in the liver by inhibiting gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis;
- improves insulin sensitivity in the muscle, resulting in improved peripheral uptake and utilization of glucose;
- delays glucose absorption in the intestine.
Such effects of Metformin-Astrafarm maintain normal blood glucose levels, prevent the occurrence of complications and contribute to the active life and work of patients.
Metformin-Astrapharm is available as film-coated tablets containing 500, 850, or 1000 mg of metformin hydrochloride.
The drug is prescribed by a doctor only and is available with a prescription.
