October 20 – World Osteoporosis Day
Since 1997, World Osteoporosis Day is an annual event, intended to raise people`s awareness of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, primarily osteoporosis, with the aim of effective prevention, early diagnosis and treatment.
Osteoporosis is defined as a systemic skeletal disease characterized by an increased risk of fractures due to compromised bone strength. This disease affects every third woman and every fifth man over the age of 50!
Preventive measures of osteoporosis include:
- Elimination, limitation or avoidance of risk factors for osteoporosis: inadequate amounts of dietary calcium, low vitamin D levels, deficiency or excessive intake of protein or phosphorus, cigarette smoking, alcohol and caffeine intake, lack of physical activity, long-term use of medication such as glucocorticosteroids, thyroid hormones in high doses and others;
- Ensuring the optimal serum concentration of vitamin D – preventive intake of 2000 IU of vitamin D per day;
- A healthy diet;
- Preventing falls;
- Post-fracture rehabilitation, orthopedic equipment, pain management.
The arsenal of the pharmaceutical company Astrapharm includes Canadian Yogurt Roselle + vitamin D3 – a dietary supplement for prevention of osteoporosis. It`s a source of biologically active compounds produced by viable cultures of probiotics, and the optimal dose of vitamin D3 (2000 IU). This unique combination contributes to the normal function of the gastrointestinal tract, which effectively increases the absorption of calcium from food, and therefore supports the health of the musculoskeletal system.
Canadian Yogurt Roselle + D3 is an effective combination for the prevention of osteoporosis!
