November 12 – World Pneumonia Day

World Pneumonia Day is celebrated annually on November 12th, bringing the world together to raise awareness of the dangers of pneumonia and influence real change. In 2021, the information campaign will be held under the slogan “Stop pneumonia: every breath counts.”

According to official statistics, pneumonia is the largest infectious killer of adults and children: a person dies from the disease every 13 seconds (1). The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has only emphasized the importance of pneumonia as a dangerous disease requiring effective prevention and timely treatment.

The most effective way to prevent pneumonia is to get vaccinated against pneumococcal, Haemophilus influenza, DPT, COVID-19, and measles. Antibacterial drugs will fight the consequences of infection.

Today Astrapharm is one of the largest manufacturers of antibiotics in Ukraine. The company’s portfolio contains a wide range of antibacterial drugs of different groups:

  • macrolides: Azithromycin-Astrapharm, Clarithromycin-Astrapharm;
  • fluoroquinolones: Levofloxacin-Astrapharm, Ciprofloxacin-Astrapharm;
  • antifungal antibiotics: Fluconazole;
  • nitroimidazoles: Ornidazole-Astrapharm;
  • beta-lactams, including in combination with cephalosporins: Cefoperazone-Combi, Cefepim Astra;
  • antibiotics of other groups: Fosfomycin.

All medicinal products comply with the high European quality standards of GMP production and have an evidence base.

Of these, macrolides, cephalosporins, beta-lactams, and fluoroquinolones are included in the protocols for the treatment of pneumonia approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The drugs are used exclusively as directed by a physician and are available by prescription.
